..any networking opportunity that is face to face, in the real world, is gold in my eyes. Industry specific events often combine great networking opportunities with interesting talks or information sessions.

Annabelle Woods began her career path to Regional Director by studying at a partner university of USW, in Bavaria, Germany. During her time in Germany she found out about the opportunity to continue her studies in Glamorgan, and it was immediately clear to her that this could be a tremendous opportunity.

After graduating with a BA (Hons) in Marketing, Annabelle started her working life in marketing roles, but soon moved into sales positions. This was followed by general management and director roles for Logitech and SteelSeries.

She managed her career progression to regional director of Steel Series (a leading manufacturer of gaming peripherals like controllers, headsets and keyboards) at the same time as moving to Australia, travelling widely places and starting a family – quite the juggling act!

Annabelle explains her typical day as being very varied – managing all aspects of running business in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Korea. This includes developing and executing business, sales, product and marketing strategies and working closely with customers.

When asked about her next steps for career progression, she explains “Admittedly I have not stopped to plan the next step, but rather try to plan a general direction. Things often turn out differently and often much better than planned. At this stage I love 'collecting' countries and establishing businesses in different cultures, which provides a wealth of exciting experiences every day.”

Her time at Glamorgan is remembered extremely fondly and felt the whole experience was “a fantastic one for me, as it generally was a very different way of teaching and studying, mostly because it was very close to the 'real world' and the lecturers made sure that we would know how to put our knowledge into practice once we graduated.”

Annabelle lived in halls of residence in Treforest, and enjoyed catching-up with friends every night in the communal kitchens for dinner and enjoying some great conversations with students from all around the globe, some of whom she still counts as being amazing friends to this day.

She has lots of excellent advice for future graduates who may be wishing to make their mark on the world, notably that “..any networking opportunity that is face to face, in the real world, is gold in my eyes. Industry specific events often combine great networking opportunities with interesting talks or information sessions.”

Annabelle also invokes words of wisdom that Eric Schmidt gave to Sheryl Sandberg before she joined Google:
“If you are offered a seat on a rocket ship, you don’t ask what seat. You just get on.”
