Women in Academia@USW Network

Women make up 40% of academic staff at the University of South Wales but make up only make up 20% of the Professoriate. There are also parallel issues in the corporate leadership environment.

Established in autumn 2014 following consultation with females across the USW community, Women in Academia@USW is a network established by women, for women.

The network has four simple aims:

  • To raise the profile of gender issues for female academics at our institution
  • To tackle the challenges facing female academics
  • To facilitate supportive relationships between female academics and to provide a safe environment for sharing problems as well as best practice
  • To celebrate and acknowledge the professional achievements of high flying females - be that in academia or alumnae working in business with the potential for crossover back to the academic environment

Interested? Whether an academic, current student or alumna, we welcome you to forthcoming events and initiatives.
Keen to know more? If you would like more information on the Network, please contact Dr Louise Bright, Deputy Director of Research & Business Engagement.
