Parent’s Guide to University Clearing

Applying through University Clearing

Applying for a course at USW through UCAS Clearing is straightforward. Before making an application, make sure that your son or daughter has the following information to hand:


  • Their UCAS personal ID number (if applicable)
  • Their A list of their qualifications and grades
  • The course that they are interested in studying


Your child son or daughter will be eligible for University Clearing if:

  • They submitted their UCAS application to study at university after 30 June
  • They didn’t receive any offers
  • They have received offers that they do not want to accept
  • On gaining their results, they remain unplaced

1. Have a look at the courses USW has to offer

Our see our Clearing course tool for the full list of available courses. Make sure your son or daughter researches the course they are interested in – encourage them to look at the module information, entry criteria, additional costs and career information.

 

2. Contact us

If your son or daughter has found a Clearing course that they are interested in, contact us straight away. We operate a specialist helpline for all Clearing enquiries: 03455 76 06 06 which is open:

  • 3rd July to 16th August: 8.30am - 5.00pm from Monday – Thursday; 8.30am – 4:30pm on Friday
  • Thursday 17th August: 8am-7pm
  • Friday 18th August: 8am-7pm
  • Saturday 20th August: 10am-4pm
  • Sunday 21st August: 10am-4pm
  • W/c Monday 22nd August: 8.30am - 5.00pm from Monday – Thursday; 8.30am – 4:30pm on Friday

3. Have essential details to hand

Your son or daughter will be asked to provide us with their UCAS personal ID number (if applicable), UCAS Track Clearing number, grades and the course they are interested in studying, so make sure that these are to hand when they call.

 

4. Add the course as a Clearing choice in UCAS Track

If we are able to make your son or daughter an offer, either on the course of their choice or a suitable alternative, we will send them a Clearing offer e-mail with further instructions on what to do next. If the course requires an interview or audition, your son/daughter will be informed when this is likely to take place. If they are successful at interview/audition and we are able to make them an offer, we will send them a Clearing offer e-mail with further instructions on what to do next.

 

5. Visit us

We will be holding Clearing Open Days if you want to for anyone who wishes to visit us before to starting at USW in September. The Clearing Open Days take place across all three of our campuses – Cardiff, Newport and Pontypridd – and are a great opportunity to meet course tutors, support staff, tour the campus and facilities, see the accommodation and chat more about studying at USW.

Our Clearing Open Days are on Saturday 19 August (10am – 1pm) and Thursday 24 August (3pm – 6pm). You can book a place here at and find out more about the day.
