Admiral partners with USW to deliver bespoke training

The 10 Admiral trainers at USW's Newport City campus

The University of South Wales is working with Admiral to deliver a new course aimed at enhancing the delivery of its in-house training.

The PG Cert Leadership and Management (Education) is aimed at leaders and managers in an educational setting.

This is the first time that the course has been tailored to meet the needs of a business.

Ten trainers from Admiral are starting the year-long course this month, which will be delivered at the company’s sites in Cardiff, Newport and Swansea.

The course will look at coaching and mentoring theories, assessment for learning and approaches to feedback and evaluation. This includes practical workshops, as well as a review of planning, delivery and feedback methods used by the Admiral trainers. Participants will also have the opportunity to undertake a research project to enable them to develop one aspect of their work as trainers.

There are 10 experienced Admiral trainers from all around the business who will be taking on this challenge. Admiral will be delivering bespoke classroom sessions over the next year, ranging from using data analysis to business models, as well as stretching their design and delivery skills to balance the art and science of learning and development.

Dr Shirley Egley, from the University of South Wales, said: “We are delighted to be working with Admiral to deliver a tailored course to further enhance the knowledge and practical application of Admiral trainers.

“The PG Cert has traditionally been aimed at educators in schools and colleges, but, as this new collaboration with Admiral shows, it is equally applicable to trainers within businesses.”

Liz James Mahoney, Head of Admiral Academy, and Rob Davies, Head of Admiral Claims Training, both principal core tutors for the course, said: “We are really pleased to be working with the University of South Wales.

“Having considered a number of potential partners for this venture we found Dr Egley and the team at the University to be very accommodating.

“They have helped us design a product that is aligned with our business goals, reflecting Admiral’s culture and one that leaves us well placed to make a real impact. It feels very much to us that we have entered into a partnership that is laying the foundations for a successful programme in the long term.”
