Super Furry Animals frontman hosts masterclass

Gruff Rhys

Super Furry Animals frontman, Gruff Rhys, recently hosted a masterclass at the University of South Wales' Cardiff campus.

Presented through the medium of Welsh and English, the event was a stimulating and refreshing look back at the influences and history of one of Wales’ most important musicians.

Interviewed by BBC radio and television presenter, Bethan Elfyn, Gruff entertained the students and staff with his recollections from the early years of Welsh language DIY releases, and looked back to the Super Furry Animals' time on Creation Records.

Playing a selection of songs, and using a variety of instruments and technologies, Gruff answered questions with a generous spirit, stating: "Make your own musical communities…write songs about your experience of the world, and do it for the joy of it."
