USW films sweep the board at RTS Wales student awards

With Pinewood Studios growing its Welsh base, the next generation of film-making talent is taking the spotlight at its neighbour, Wales's major creative industries University. Films made by University of South Wales students cleaned up at the annual RTS Wales student awards winning all five categories the ceremony at Bridgend College on Friday, 27 March.

Factual

Entertainment

The Bullet Catch: Catherine Attwood, Yuan Huang, Xanthe Young & Team

Drama

A Mermaid's Tail: Luke Tucker, Lorna Truman, George Dallimore, Athena O'Connor-Lindsey

Animation

Cut From the Same Cloth: James Carlisle

A further Open Award went to

Vice Versa - Creation: Natasha Hawthornthwaite, Rhodri Carter, Daniel Ridgeon

Lecturer in Documentary Film, and a former RTS award winner himself, Professor Christopher Morris said: “Students from our film school have an excellent record in this UK-wide competition against the best film schools all over the country.

"USW film students have secured at least one nomination every year for the past eight years – winning five times. It is an incredible record that we expect to continue!”

The scoop caps a remarkable year for film at the University after they won 7 out of 11 gongs at the prestigious Ffresh Film awards earlier this year.

The winners of the four RTS Wales categories now go on to compete in the UK-wide RTS Awards in London where USW film students have been nominated for the past eight years and won on five occasions. The RTS Television Awards take place in May.
