Lord Hain lecture to focus on ISIS threat

Peter Hain

Lord Hain of Neath will explore the challenge of defeating ISIS during a lecture at the University of South Wales (USW) later this month.

He will consdier the rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and analyse how the international community should respond to the challenges posed by the rapid rise to power of an organisation which, a little over a year ago, would have been known only to regional specialists and security consultants but which now headlines our national news.

Lord Hain is one of the UK’s best known political figures. He represented the constituency of Neath for more than 20 years as an MP, and served in various government roles, including Secretary of State for Wales. More recently, he has taken up a seat in the House of Lords as a life peer.

He is currently a Visiting Professor in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at USW, and this is the latest in a series of lectures he has delivered on international affairs.

The lecture is being held on Thursday, November 17 at noon at USW’s Pontypridd Campus.

It is open to members of the public, as well as school and college groups. The lecture is part of the Global Choice: Talking Points series.
