A UNIVERSITY of South Wales (USW) student is following in the footsteps of US Masters winner Danny Willet by showing off his skills on the international stage.

Theo Baker, 22, from Newport, has been chosen to represent Great Britain at the 2016 World University Golf Championships, which will be held in Brive-La-Gaillarde, France, from June 23-26.

He will join fellow students Craig Howie and Christopher Maclean, who are both studying at the University of Stirling, in the British Universities and College Sports (BUCS) men’s team at the event.

Ryan Statton, who manages the Golf Programme at USW, said: “Theo has just completed a Masters in Sports Coaching and, as captain of the University’s first team, has contributed significantly to the University Golf Programme.

“It’s a very rare honour to have a USW student representative in the GB team. It’s not only an honour for Theo, but for the Golf Programme and for USW Sport.

“The significance of selection to the team was emphasised earlier this month, as Danny Willet, a former member of the GB World Student Games team, won the US Masters.”

Applications to join the University of South Wales’ golf programme this September are now open. For more information visit www.southwales.ac.uk/golf
