During this session we will introduce you to the exciting and challenging world of advertising, showcasing a selection of real world campaigns and award-winning student projects that will give you an overview of this course. Career pathways may include Art Direction, copy writing, social media, account management amongst many other exciting options.
During the session you'll have the chance to develop a storyboard for a TV advert, in a fun and interactive workshop designed to give you a taste of studying this course. You can meet some of our current students, and find out about their recent projects and live briefs with agencies both locally and nationally.
Animation and Visual Effects
During this session you will take part in a workshop, meet our teaching team, take a tour of our facilities and get an insight into the skills you'll learn in this subject area. We offer a wide variety of courses within the subject, so it's the best time to ask questions and find out which is the course for you, depending on your interests, skills and career aspirations.
You'll also get to view student work and find out some of our graduate success stories.
Do you play video games and wonder if you could make them too?
We offer two undergraduate courses where you can specialise in either creating fantastic artwork or focus upon designing the games themselves.
During this session you’ll meet our course team who will introduce you to our courses, explain the wide variety of gaming jobs, showcase work from our award-winning students, and answer any questions you may have.
During this session, you'll participate in a dance class delivered by course leader Matthew Gough. This will give you a taste of studying dance at USW. You will also have the opportunity to learn more about the audition process and what professional dance training involves, as well as experience the fantastic dance studios we have, that opened in September last year as part of the enhanced Cardiff campus.

Drama and Performance
During this session you can meet our academic team, who will give you an insight into the drama and performance courses we offer. You will be able to take a tour of our facilities including our brand new facilities that opened in September as part of the enhanced Cardiff campus. You can also learn about the workshop interview process as well as about some of the exciting projects our students have been involved in. Ask about the incredible venues for theatre and performance within Cardiff too - there's plenty of them!
During this session you’ll be introduced to the course team and be able to see work of both current students and recent graduates – many of whom are now working within exciting aspects of the photographic industry. You’ll get to see examples of the kind of projects that we do with external clients ranging from the National Trust and the National Museum of Wales to commercial clients such as Ally Cappelino and Griffin Menswear. This is a great opportunity to see our fantastic facilities at the Cardiff Campus including our new studios, editing suite and print room. This day provides an opportunity to ask us any questions that you might have about studying this exciting and cutting edge course in contemporary photography at USW. During this session you can meet our photography academics - all respected photographers - who will give you an insight into the course and its international reputation. You will also get the chance to see student and graduate work, to give you an idea as to the sort of work you could be producing.
During this session you will meet our highly experienced fashion team who will give you an insight into what it takes to make it in the world of fashion, whether that's design, promotion or marketing and retail design. You will be able to find out about what to include in your portfolio as well as see work from our most recent fashion shows in Cardiff, Graduate Fashion Week and CODA, the amazing collaborative project as part of Cardiff Gradfest. We've just taken part in Cardiff Fashion Week so please ask us about that too!
During this session you will meet our experienced academics who will give you an insight into the course and the kind of projects you could be working on. You'll learn about the different skills and stages of the film-making process and what it takes to make it in the industry, from film practitioners themselves.
Keen to work in the media but not sure in what capacity? Want to understand more about ‘the industry’ and find your ideal role within it? Love films but not sure you want to be making them? Then BA Film Studies might be just right for you. During this session you’ll explore just what opportunities the study of film can open up for you. Whether it’s writing or production, research or education, distribution, curation or exhibition, let us help you decide where your passions lie.
During this session you will get to meet members of the Graphic Communication teaching team who will be discussing the course content, showcasing successful student projects and discussing the exciting future of this profession. The presentation will highlight opportunities within the course to work independently, collaboratively or within teams that focus on real-world design challenges that our students care about. Past case studies of strategic Branding, information systems, motion graphics, user experience design and awareness campaigns will be presented. We'll also discuss career pathways with you, too.
During this session you'll get to meet our course team who will give you an insight into the exciting subject of illustration. You can also find out about developing your own creative portfolio. Ask about the exciting projects our students, and staff have been involved with recently including 'Newfangled', the amazing end of year show as part of Cardiff Gradfest last year.
During this session you'll meet the teaching team and learn about the opportunities available to students. For example, you can find out about the sort of companies that we've worked with on live briefs and projects over the past year. During this session you will find out about the ever-changing world of journalism. You can take part in a practical workshop where you'll get to meet our lecturers - all experienced journalists. You will have the opportunity to find out about recent student projects such as the live newsroom, and our new and exciting collaboration with Made in Cardiff TV, too.

Media, Culture and Journalism
If you're interested in studying the media, you'll want to come along to this session. All our staff have extensive experience working in media, and will give you an insight into the course and what it takes to be successful in the industry. You can find out about opportunities available to you as an MCJ student and discover the sorts of things our graduates have gone on to do.
During this session you can take a look around our facilities including our impressive TV studio. You'll get to find out about the specific skills needed to work in the industry, and discover some of the exciting projects our students have been working on.
Music and Sound
Whether you're interested in performance, production or sound, there's an option here at USW. As part of your open day you'll be able to take a look around our recording studios and equipment including our famous Gus Dudgeon suite, where Elton John recorded some of his music. More recently bands have come to visit us to record in our facilities, including Super Furry Animals. You can meet our tutors, all of whom are practicing musicians, and find out about all the opportunities that await you as a music student in Cardiff including the fantastic range of music venues here in Cardiff.
Photojournalists work on many varied projects and stories including live news. During this session you can find out more about some of our recent student projects and about the work our graduates have gone on to do. TV and Film Set Design
During this session you can take part in a workshop exploring the role of a production designer in film and TV. You can find out what it takes to establish a career in the industry, discover the sorts of work placements that students have experienced (such as Doctor Who!) and learn more about other recent projects.
