Open Day: Get InvolvedEssential Talks

We’ve got a number of recommended talks scheduled throughout the day to give you an insight into life on campus. 

Start your day by finding out what the University of South Wales has to offer you in our Welcome Talk followed by the your Subject Talk. You can also find out about student finance and student life.

Welcome Talk

From fantastic facilities to excellent support – it’s an exciting time to study here.

Talks: 9:15am or 10am depending on your subject

(Please check your planner in the Open Day programme for your talk time.)

Student Finance Talk

How much will university cost and how will you pay for it? Get a practical insight into financial support, such as student loans and grants, how and when to apply for funding, and extra sources of income.

Talk: 12:30pm

Student Life Talk

Our students share their experiences of life at the University of South Wales and studying at our Newport City Campus, so you know what it’s really like to study here – they’ll answer any questions you may have too.

Talk: 1pm

Open Day: Information FairInformation Fair

You’ve probably got lots of questions about becoming a student at the University of South Wales – that’s great! At our Open Day there will be just the right people to answer them. 

Subject advice on our courses, student finance, accommodation, careers, disability, dyslexia support and applying to university are all covered as part of the day. Simply drop into our Information Fair anytime throughout the day for a chat with our staff. The Information Fair is located just behind the registration desks so you will see it when you arrive.

Note: Subject area advice stands are only available after your subject talk has finished.

Subject Advice

Our academic staff will be available to discuss the courses that you’re interested in and answer any questions you may have after your subject talk.

Careers

Speak to our careers staff for individual advice and guidance, and find out about work experience, careers events and extra support.

Student Finance

We can answer your queries about all aspects of student finance – including tuition fees, loans, grants and scholarships.

Disability and Dyslexia Support

A member of our team will be available to explain the specialist support on offer.

Applying to University

Speak with our admissions staff to get all the information you need to apply to the University of South Wales.

Take a Look Around

Our friendly student ambassadors will take you on a tour of Newport City Campus and our Accommodation. This is your chance to see our facilities, ask questions about day-to-day university life and see where you could be living. Each tour usually takes around 25-30 minutes and you can book your place on these in the Information Fair.

Teacher Training Open Day

At our Teacher Training Open Day we will be running bespoke activities to help you with the interview process and give you an insight into what you will be learning as a USW Teaching student.

From learning useful teaching tips and how to engage young learners to taking part in practical activities, there's plenty going on to whet your appetite for a career in teaching.

Travel information and directions to our Newport City Campus can be found on our website.

There’s no parking at the campus but parking in the Kingsway Centre is discounted by 20% for students, staff and visitors to the University. Just make sure you validate your ticket at reception.

If you are travelling by train, please alight at Newport train station.

Friars Walk

Friars Walk is a brand-new £100m retail development which opened in November 2015. It is right opposite Newport City Campus so its really easy to get to. Why not take a look when you come along to the Open Day?

As well as an eight-screen multiplex cinema, you’ll be able to enjoy food with friends at Nandos, Gourmet Burger Kitchen or Chiquito, and enjoy a spot of retail therapy in any of the 75 shops, including brands like New Look, River Island, Topshop and Debenhams.
