Primary Teaching Subject Session

Following your Welcome Talk with Jamie James, Head of School of Education, Early Years & Social Work, you will attend a rolling carousel of subject sessions.

Introduction to Teacher Training

This session will introduce you to Teacher Training at USW. Find out more about our courses and why 99% of our teaching students are in employment or further study within six months of graduation.

Interview Preparation

If you are worried about the interview process for Initial Teacher Education then this session will explore how to get ready for these through research and analysing interview techniques. A Senior Lecturer in Primary at USW will help you prepare for the university-based interviews for Primary Teaching.

Problem Solving and Welsh Language Development

You will participate in two practical sessions on the topics of Problem Solving and Welsh Language Development, designed to give you a flavour of what it will be like to be a USW Primary Teaching student.

Secondary Teaching Subject Session

The Egg Drop Challenge

Find out how your teaching methods can inspire young learners. You will take part in a practical challenge designed to show you how creativity and innovation can be included in your teaching methods for STEM subjects.

Primary teaching

  • Our primary and secondary teaching courses include QTS at the end of the three years, so you can apply for jobs straight after graduation.
  • Our brand new science laboratories and primary literacy rooms mean you can look forward to learning in an environment that fully prepares you for the world of work.
  • School experiences are at the heart of our courses. We ensure that our students go on at least two teaching practices as part of the course, so you will have plenty of experience to impress at interview.
  • We also offer students the option to undertake the Primary Studies course through the medium of Welsh, which includes teaching placements in Welsh-medium schools. Our Secondary courses also offer placements through the medium of Welsh.
