Our nursing courses are very competitive – make sure you you attend the open day to find out from our lecturers how to make a good application.  You can meet current students and ask them questions about life on placement, accommodation, and what it’s really like to be a nursing student. You can take a tour of our very own Clinical Simulation Centre, where you’ll be practising your new skills before you go out on placement. 

Midwifery

Midwifery
Midwifery is a very competitive course, with only limited places available very year. You should attend our open day to find out how to make the best possible application. You can visit our birthing and maternal simulators, which can be programmed to simulate various stages of pregnancy. You can also chat to current midwifery students and find out what it’s really like to be a midwife. They’ll tell you all about life on placement and what you can expect. 


Health Sciences

Health Sciences
The University offers courses in Health and Social Care Management, Community Health and Wellbeing and Dementia Studies. Come and visit to chat to our lecturers about what you’ll be learning, placements and career opportunities. You can also chat to current students and tour the facilities such as our Hydra Minerva Simulation Suite.

Policing and Security

Policing and Security
At the open day you’ll find out about ‘The future of the force’ – where you’ll look at proposed changes to careers with the police and how to progress in this area. You will also explore our outstanding facilities including the Hydra Minerva Simulation Suite as well as finding out about our unique employment initiatives.

Chemistry

Chemistry
Our students love studying Chemistry at USW – this course is top in Wales for student satisfaction with 95% (National Student Survey 2016). At the open day, you’ll be able to chat to our students to find out why. You will also be able to talk to our lecturers about  the employment opportunities available to chemistry graduates and look at the career pathways of some of our own students after graduation. Visit our impressive laboratories and learn about our industry-standard equipment and chemical analysis techniques.

You’ll be able to chat to lecturers about how what you will learn can change people’s lives and about the many different career opportunities within this industry. You will meet current students who can tell you about their experiences of the course and learn about what our graduates have gone on to do. You will also learn how our close ties with local industry will benefit you when starting your career.

Forensic Science

At the open day, you’ll participate in an interactive session so you can learn how analytical chemistry, molecular biology and other sciences are used to solve different types of crime. You’ll visit our Crime Scene House to learn about the search for evidence and discover how evidence is analysed in our laboratories. 

Natural History

Find out about how our unique Natural History degree allows you to explore, document, and communicate the wonders of the natural world. From the scientific study of a diverse range of fascinating habitats and environments, to digital photography and film-making, you’ll get an insight into how you’ll gain professional skills to pursue your interests. You’ll learn about our hands-on approach to learning and fieldwork opportunities, see first-hand our impressive facilities and equipment, and find out what careers our graduates have gone on to do.

Biology

Biological Sciences
At the open day, you’ll find out what  fieldwork opportunities are available in the UK and overseas for the biology and international wildlife biology courses. Past trips have included visits to South Africa and we also visit the beautiful Brecon Beacons closer to home.  You’ll visit our labs and and explore course materials such as anatomical models, microscopes, skeletons and bones, which highlight the different subjects taught in Human Biology. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about the course with staff and current students.

Medical Sciences

At the open day, you will find out about our Cardiff University Feeder Scheme, where every year a selected number of second-year students progress to study medicine at Cardiff University. You’ll find out what other career pathways are available after graduating and how our placements ensure you leave with the skills you need in  your chosen career.  

Geography

Come along to our Open Day and see where a Geography degree can take you. Chat to our lecturers and students, and find out about the opportunities for experiential learning including community based projects and activities that will take you out into the field. Recent fieldwork destinations have included; Athens, Santorini, Hong Kong and Uganda. You’ll also see our facilities, take part in an interactive session, and find out more about the future employment opportunities that a Geography degree can provide.

At the open day, we’ll cover different aspects of geology – from mining and oil to volcanoes, dinosaurs and fossils. You'll learn about our field trips – past trips have included Iceland, Spain and Snowdonia. You can delve into our labs and use our high magnification digital microscope as you explore our facilities.
