USW hosts a number of high profile guest speakers to speak to students and hold guest lectures, which all Finance and Business students are invited to attend.
Former CEO of HSBC, Dyfrig John has visited the University on several occasions as part of the Global Choices events, speaking about the global economy.
Dyfrig’s contribution to banking was described by HSBC Chairman Stephen Green as "immeasurable".
Professor Andrew Thompson, Head of USW’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences, said: “Dyfrig John has been at the forefront of changes in the banking sector in different regions of the world, including, of course, at home in the UK. He has spoken to students on several occasions about his personal reflections on the challenges of managing risk and uncertainty, from his period working in Asia to his role as Head of HSBC went the storm broke in 2008/2009 which became, as we now know, a global financial crisis.”
Other noted speakers to visit USW include Miles Celic, Chief Executive of TheCityUK, who talked to students about future of the industry, taking in topics such as BREXIT and FinTech, as well as Tony Godfrey, Head of Business Development, Financial & Professional Services at Welsh Government.
