Current Issues in Dementia Practice

If you are a registered practitioner currently working with people living with dementia, this module is for you.

This 40-credit Level 6 module will enable students to develop and extend their existing knowledge about contemporary issues in the care and support of people living with dementia.

Taught sessions will consider the current context of dementia support and will include aspects of assessment; the person/carer perspective; genomics; end of life issues and some helping approaches.

Aims of the module

  • Enhance greater understanding of professional development in the field of Dementia care.
  • To enable students to develop and extend their existing knowledge about contemporary advances around dementia, diagnosis, assessment and implementation of action plans for both their person with dementia and their carers/supporters.

What you will study

Summative Assessment 


4, 800 word written assignment/ presentation and completion of clinical learning outcomes.
