Professor John Andrews was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws in recognition of his contribution to the University and its predecessor institutions.
"When I first entered Higher Education some years ago I could never have predicted where I would be today, how I would have got here, or what I would learn along the way. The journey has been exciting and often challenging.
I have benefited enormously from the advice and encouragement of many people. I have learned the advantages of responding to opportunities and I have learned not to be afraid of challenge.
They are reflections I would share with today’s graduands whose opportunity to set out on their career paths I envy.
Don’t be put off by challenges, take advantage of advice and support, and seize the opportunities available to you.
I owe many thanks to many people, not least to those friends and colleagues who have made my years here in the universities of Newport, Glamorgan and now the University of South Wales so fulfilling and rewarding. It is a university with which I am very proud to be associated."
