We completed college together and also went onto study the same course at University. It’s been 16 years and still not a single argument!

Whether they're near or far, old or new, best friends are there for us every step of the way. To celebrate National Best Friends Day we caught up with best pals Lois and Charlotte below. They’ve been best friends for 16 years and studied BA International Business with Marketing together at Glamorgan Uni (class of 2011).

How and when did you first meet each other?

Lois: We first met in 2006 when I was 16 and Charlotte was 17. We both enrolled on the same college course and as they say, the rest is history, she’s been my bestie ever since.

Charlotte: We met in Bridgend college in 2008. Lois was late starting the course by a few days as she decided to study IT but didn’t like it and transferred over to Business Studies. We’ve been besties ever since!

What were your first impressions of each other?

Charlotte: We were a tiny class in college and I remember thinking please say you are in my class as there wasn’t anyone I really clicked with.

Lois: As a fresh-faced 16-year-old walking into the college classroom for the first time, I knew straight away, Charl was going to be my friend. With her smiley face I remember thinking “Ohhhh she’s so tall and pretty”. We gravitated to each other and that’s where our friendship started. We completed college together and also went onto study the same course at University. It’s been 16 years and still not a single argument!

What are some of your favourite memories together?

Charlotte: I think Vietnam holds the most memorable and funny memories. We were living opposite ends of the world and hadn’t seen each other in so long so we decided to do some backpacking - by backpacking I mean we stayed in 5-star hotels and then went to the hostels in the evening to meet people our age and then went back to the fluffy robes and air con after a night out! We experienced the best the country had to offer, ate all the local food, met endless backpackers and bought way too many local goodies!

Lois: Where do I even begin, we’ve been very fortunate to have some fabulous memories together (even though we’ve both been living in different countries for the past decade). From spending the summer together living in Greece, weekends in London, backpacking through Vietnam, club nights in Ibiza to walks along the beach with our bulldogs Bruce and Bowie.

What you do you admire most in each other?

Charlotte: That our relationship is effortless. We speak everyday all day, we’ve never argued, we’re both each other’s therapist, we’re our ride or die and can tell each other anything. Even our dogs are besties!

Lois: There are so many reasons why Charl is my best friend, she’s extremely generous, supportive and ambitious…  I would honestly trust her with my life. Even though life is hectic we always make the time for each other. Charl lives in London and I live in South Wales but not a day goes by where we send each other voice notes on whatsapp ranting about life or pinging over photographs of our aesthetically pleasing dinner.

What does a typical Lois and Charlotte day together look like?

Lois: So, as Charl lives in London we only actually see each other every couple of months and of course every catch up usually revolves around food and drink (either a cheeky cocktail or a cup of coffee). Whether we’re heading out for a day in Cardiff or to my local coffee shop we do not stop talking it’s like we’ve never been apart!

Charlotte: There are two types of days - one where we have a coffee, long dog walks and natter over lunch. The other involves too many glasses of wine and a very sore head the next day!
