The Worshipful Livery Company of Wales Travel Scholarship is an award of £1000 generously given, and aimed at postgraduate students and Class of 2020 postgraduate graduates to enable them to travel and to undertake a study project, which will significantly assist in furthering their careers and also enhance and develop their talents. 

With the ongoing pandemic and fluctuating restrictions on travelling away from home, this year (2020-21) the Scholarship supports those wishing to travel overseas or within the UK, where government restrictions for either allow.

The Award was established for the benefit of the people of Wales.

Eligibility criteria. Candidates need to be:

  • between the ages of 21 and 35, inclusive
  • currently studying a postgraduate degree (masters level and above) or have been awarded their postgraduate degree at any time in 2020 (Class of 2020)
  • able to demonstrate by a blend of birth, upbringing, residency or employment that they have a commitment to Wales
  • Looking to take up travel opportunities by end August 2021


The application process consists of submitting a proposal of around 500 words, outlining the project and detailing why the Scholarship would help develop the future career of the applicant. All entries are considered, with those shortlisted invited for online interview.

The Scholarship winner would be required to provide a written travel report and potentially a verbal presentation to the Worshipful Livery Company of Wales.

Founded in 1993 as the Welsh Livery Guild to promote education, the arts, science and technology in Wales, in 2013 the Guild was presented with a Royal Charter and renamed the Worshipful Livery Company of Wales (WLCOW).

WLCOW is dedicated to helping young people throughout Wales to develop their talents and skills by means of an annual Awards programme of scholarships and bursaries to students in schools, universities and technical colleges, as well as to apprentices and young people in the armed forces.
