USW rises 24 places in Times Good University Guide
18-09-2020
The University of South Wales (USW) has risen 24 places in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021.
From 114th position last year, USW now sits 90th in the Guide.
All other Welsh HEIs remain in the same relative position from 2020’s table, with the exception of Cardiff and Swansea, which swapped positions from 2020.
Every University in Wales rose in the table with the exception of Swansea, which dropped from 31st to 36th. Cardiff remained at 34th. USW has the second largest rise in the table.
USW has seen relative improvement across the metrics used within the table, for Graduate Prospects, completion, Good Honours, SSRs, and our relative spend on services and facilities.
USW has three subjects in the top 30 in the UK. Mathematics is at 15 – up from 31st last year - Social Policy at 26, and Art & Design at 30th. Other notable improvements from 2020 included Art & Design (59th to 30th), Education (77th to 41st), Hospitality, Leisure, Recreation & Tourism (50th to 38th), Law (56th to 31st ), Music (65th to 49th), and Sports Science (61st to 42nd).
Professor Martin Steggall, USW Pro Vice-Chancellor, said: “On the back of the recent 32-place rise in the Guardian University Guide ranking, this is another piece of great news for USW.
“Recording such impressive results is proof that our staff are constantly working very hard to ensure students receive high-quality education and experience.
“It’s also great to see improvements across a range of subjects, and a number being rated among the best in the sector.
“As with all these Guides, they also highlight areas in which we can improve. We have the expertise and experience to achieve rises across the board, and will be looking at how we can use this to build on the successes we have already enjoyed.”
