Graduate female entrepreneurs share their passion for building a successful business

The virtual Developing Entrepreneurial Women Programme panel event ‘HOW SHE DID IT’ was open to women in Wales who are ready to embark on their business start-up journey.

Dr Louise Bright, Director of Research and Business Engagement, spoke to three USW graduate entrepreneur volunteers to hear what they’ve learnt on their entrepreneur journeys and what advice they have for others wanting to follow in their footsteps. The panel included Jessica Fletcher (BSC, Sociology with Education 2014) Owner of Bean & Bread, Sophie Collins (BA Hons, Media Production, 2018) Owner of Hestia Scents and Sharon Benton (BA Hons, Communication Studies, 1983) Owner of Fancy Plants

The entrepreneurs shared invaluable first-hand information, practical advice and tips on how they’ve overcome any barriers being a female entrepreneur from building a thriving business around their families to juggling working fulltime alongside starting their business journeys.

As well as sharing insights from their industries our graduates spoke about the highs and lows of being a business owner.

Dr Louise Bright, Director of Research and Business Engagement commented “It was so inspiring to hear from women who started their journeys at USW and have gone on to forge brilliant businesses. They shared their stories – the good and the bad and their plans to grow. I can’t wait to find out what they do next!”

Sophie Collins Owner of Hestia Scents commented “It was amazing to spend the evening listening to the inspiring stories of the other guest speakers and I’m so grateful that I was also given the opportunity to speak about my experience as an entrepreneur and answer questions from the attendees. I hope they thoroughly enjoyed it and learnt a lot, I know I did!”

The common theme and advice throughout the evening was to be true to yourself, ensure you have a passion for your business and ultimately always believe in yourself.
