In
brief, describe what your enterprise/company does:
Money Market Square developes business plans and
pitches decks to help start-ups secure funding.
What
inspired you to start your own business or go freelance?
Over the last decade
there has been a proliferation of technology startups. Entrepreneurs and
startups need money to launch and grow.
While venture capitalists and angel investors are willing to fund startups, the entrepreneur needs to explain their vision clearly to potential investors. I was able to identify this market opportunity.
When and where did you first develop the idea for the enterprise/company that you're currently involved with?
In 2016 while developing a startup technology product for a client, we ran out of funds. I offered to help by looking for angel investors, who required I present a detailed business plan and pitch deck.
I realized there where many other entrepreneurs in the same position, and who needed investor-focused business plans and pitch decks.
Did you receive any business or careers support from USW, if so, how has this helped you / your business?
In November 2006, I sat and passed a module offered for free by the business school - Starting a New Enterprise (EB1S07). Although it was a long time ago, it still helped me and the business I have today.
What do you enjoy most about your work and what are the main challenges that you face?
Every startup and entrepreneur is different. It's interesting working on a range of projects and sometimes watching them evolve. I enjoy that.
It can be challenging getting a steady stream of clients.
What are your plans for the next 5 years?
I would like to see this venture grow into a venture capitalist fund, offering capital to startups.
Any advice to others thinking of setting up a business or going freelance?
I have found that delivering measurable value to clients is critical to success. Believe in yourself, constantly upgrading your skills and always market your services.
