The latest lecture introduces Professor Florence Ayisi, Professor in the Faculty of Creative Industries.
Belonging: Bridging Gaps in Cultural Representations and Audience Perceptions in Transnational Documentary Film
In this Inaugural professorial lecture, Florence Ayisi discusses the notion of belonging framed around the discourse of (in)visibility and representation in the media. In particular, she reflects on the politics of cultural representation, first in the context of her early awareness of, and preoccupations with media stereotypes of Africa, and secondly, on her research journey of exploring and producing alternative portrayals from a transnational and a woman-centred perspective and subjectivity, and within a postcolonial framework.
The University of South Wales' Inaugural Lecture Series profiles the academic excellence of the University’s professorial staff, and brings leading research and thinking to the wider community. All lectures are free to attend and open to all, and an informal light buffet and refreshments are provided after each lecture, giving guests the chance to network.
If you would like to attend this or future Inaugural Lectures, please RSVP to Mrs Carol Hopkins or telephone Mrs Carol Hopkins, Tel: 01443 482 763 or e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
