Tell us about your current job
I’m currently employed as a Rugby Development Manager for Play Rugby USA. My current role has me based out in the Hamptons, New York creating and running a grass-roots rugby initiative. Going from coaching rugby to being in a position where I am responsible for the development and deployment of the project is an extremely exciting and challenging opportunity that wouldn’t have come about without USW!
What made you choose your degree?
I was already active within the coaching environment when I first enrolled at USW, but felt that I was lacking a depth of understanding on how to coach effectively. I also really wanted to focus my coaching on rugby and gain an in-depth knowledge on the intricate workings of the game. The Rugby Coaching & Performance degree offered me the opportunity to develop my coaching skills while focusing on the game that I loved. Working alongside nationally and internationally recognised rugby organisations was also a huge pull!
What was the most exciting part of your course?
The opportunity to represent USW overseas working with Play Rugby USA has been a fantastic and exciting experience. Coaching in New York and the Hamptons has introduced me to a very diverse rugby community and shown me how rugby is not only a sport, but a great vehicle for social change.
Highlight of your time at USW?
Working alongside some fantastic coaches, developing under the country’s top coach educators and being introduced to strength and conditioning under Ian Jeffreys really made the university experience for me!
