Fun and Awards at the Lighting and Live Event Technology 10th Anniversary Gala Dinner


Rounding off a busy academic term, over 50 guests  - alumni, current students and staff - attended the Lighting and Live Event Technology 10th Anniversary Gala Dinner on Friday 18 December.

Held at the Marriott in Cardiff, guests were welcomed by members of the Course Team - Stuart Green, Rob Locke, Phil Hughes and Dr Akram Hammoudeh - and all enjoyed an Alumni Office-sponsored drinks reception, three course meal and entertainment.

Graduates returned from across the country, with some breaking from work commitments to attend. Recent success for graduates of the two lighting and live event courses, include touring with rock band Metallica, lighting up Adu Dhabi on New Years Eve and providing a winter wonderland effect at Castle Coch for the recent Frozen film showing.

Course awards were presented prior to the Dinner and the category winners were as follows:

Most Innovative Group Project - recognising the most market ready and viable group project of the past 10 years: Mains Data

The Duct Tape Award - recognises the person who is able to fix just about anything: Ger O'Donnell

The Caffeine Addict Award - for the student or alumni who drinks the most coffee in a day: James Spencer

Most Conscientious Student Award - to a past or present student that has shown real grit and determination towards their studies: Dan Terzino

The Best Excuse Award - to the student who has provided the most creative or elaborate reason for being late, not submitting an assignment on time etc: James North

Award for Outstanding Achievement - recognising an individual that has worked tirelessly to achieve excellence in their field: James Siddle

The Award for Outstanding Contribution to Course - recognising a person or company who has made a significant impact on students studying Lighting or Live Event Technology at the University of South Wales: Ian Brown, Robe UK

Course Leader for  the Lighting Design and Technology course, Stuart Green commented:

It has been fantastic to see so many of you and find out what you're up to now - it's wonderful to hear so many success stories. We're very proud that you are one of a growing network of alumni who has graduated from the leading lighting and live event course in the UK. No matter where you are in the world, you are never far away from a University of South Wales alumnus. Don't be a stranger, keep in touch and we look forward to seeing you at our next event!
