Alumni Big Weekend 2018: Football

Osian Roberts talk 2018 - 5

The University was thrilled to welcome Osian Roberts, USW honorary fellow, 2016 and Assistant Manager of Wales' National Football Team, back to campus as part of Alumni Big Weekend 2018 on Saturday 16 June.

Talking all things #TogetherStronger - an overview of the journey taken in developing the Welsh National Football Team ahead of Euro 2016 and beyond - Osian provided compelling insight into leadership and high performance teams, most notably exploring topics around man management, team psychology and group dynamics.

You never stop learning, you should never get stuck in your ways" @Osian_Roberts talks the development of the Welsh National Team

This Big Weekend USW Sport talk was hosted at the University's redeveloped Sport Park, with those attending also having the chance to tour the facilities. Opened earlier this year by the First Minister, the University Sport Park has a new specialist centre for strength and conditioning, plus international-standard full size 3G indoor football and rugby facilities.

After the talk and with Steve 'Savs' Savage' at the helm, returning alumni and current students took to the pitch for the inaugural Alumni Student Footy Tournament. Taking some by surprise, the current student select triumped 4-2!

These sort of events are really important, helping bind graduates and graduands together. @Osian_Roberts reflects on the value of Alumni Big Weekend and similar events

Thanks to all players, 'celebrity coaches' and supporters, including Jonathan Jones, Lee Kendall, David Adams, Professor Brendan Cropley, Gavin Chesterfield and Ashleigh Griffiths.
