Are you interested in a career supporting the wellbeing and social inclusion of people with learning disabilities? Would you like the opportunity to pursue this path without the burden of paying course fees? If so, then a Learning Disability Nursing future could be yours at the University of South Wales this September.
Learning disability nurses care for people of all ages with a learning disability and work in partnership with individuals, supporters and family carers to provide specialist healthcare. They promote their autonomy, rights, choices and their social inclusion in the health care system.
93% of our Learning Disabilities Nursing graduates are in employment or further study six months after graduating. Graduate Destination Survey 2016
Our three-year learning disabilities nursing degree combines theory and practice in an innovative way, to focus on the care of people with learning disabilities. Successful completion of this nursing degree will allow you entry to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Register as a qualified learning disabilities nurse.
With specific relevance to starting studies in September, and for those happy to remain in Wales for two years after graduation, course study fees are fully paid, plus you can obtain a £1000 non-means tested grant. In addition to this you could be eligible for a means tested bursary of up to £3,567, depending on your circumstances.
This course attracts students from a wide variety of backgrounds and higher education disciplines including Health and Social Care, Childhood Studies, and Psychology. This list is by no means exhaustive so, if you've already completed a degree in pharma science, childhood development, human biology, social work or similar, this second degree could offer you continued studies relevant for your future.
So, with fees fully paid, a grant and a bursary potentially available, might a Learning Disability Nursing future be for you?
