Join us on November 22 2018 for the latest event in our Global Choices 'talking points' series as we welcome Lady Shami Chakrabati, Shadow Attorney General for England and Wales and former-Director of Liberty.


Lady Shami Chakrabarti is an internationally recognised campaigner for civil liberties. After graduating from the London School of Economics, she trained as a barrister and was appointed to work as a lawyer for the Home Office. In 2003, she was appointed as the Director of Liberty, the UK’s best known civil liberties campaign organisation, and, over the next decade, established a reputation as the country’s most public critic of she saw as the erosion of civil liberties. In 2007, she was awarded the CBE for her services to human rights. She was made a Life Peer as Baroness Chakrabarti of Kennington in 2016. She currently serves as Shadow Attorney General for England and Wales. Among other roles, she served on the panel of the Leveson Enquiry, is a Governor of the Ditchley Foundation for the promotion of international relations and Chancellor of the University of Essex.

 
This will be an ‘in conversation with’ event which covers a range of issue which have been at the heart of Lady Chakrabarti’s career, most notably human rights and women’s equality.
