PhD students ‘Broaden their Horizons’ through the support of alumni volunteers

Alumni volunteering news

We were delighted to welcome back USW alumni to ‘Broadening Horizons’ - an online initiative to help inspire and guide our postgraduate research students as they approach their professional future.

We were joined by alumni volunteers Dr Sarah Wallace 2018, Dr Geraint Evans 2002, Dr Nosike Amucheazi 2018 and key note speaker Dr Glenda Jones - where they shared their personal professional journeys of a life after a PhD, how they adapted and their stories of success.

Their words of encouragement and inspiration gave over 30 graduate research students an insight into careers beyond, as well as including, academia. The attendees engaged in a live Q&A session which provided them with an opportunity to engage with the speakers on a personal level, sharing impactful and valuable knowledge.

Llinos Spargo, Graduate School Co-ordinator said “This was a great event for our PGR student community to hear from our past students and their journeys following their research degree award.  It was inspiring to hear from our Alumni community and gladdening that they were willing to give up their time to come back, inspire and challenge by imparting their experiences to our current PGR students”
