Law graduates inspire current students

Alumni - law

Despite the ongoing global pandemic, graduates from the university continue to volunteer and inspire the next generation of students.

Our alumni volunteers joined a series of live Q&A sessions during the Focus on Practice – Legal Executive and Barrister weeks. Julia Rees, Work Placement Partner, hosted the sessions along with Lois Williams, Alumni Volunteering Officer, where they were joined by inspirational graduates who spoke about their passion and enthusiasm for their profession.

With the alumni volunteers having started their career journey here at USW studying LLB (Hons) Law, they shared helpful advice and guidance which they wish they'd received during their time as a student.

The sessions also showcased the pros and cons of a profession as a Barrister and Legal Executive along with sharing great insight into how law is practised.

Julia Rees, Work Placement Partner commented “This academic year we’ve had to adapt and approach things differently. Every year our LLB Law students undertake a two week work placement in a legal setting. This year we’ve arranged for the employers to come to us!”

“A number of themed weeks were arranged in January and February where we held sessions on Focus on Practice – Legal Executive and Barrister weeks with over 100 students participating. We were fortunate to be joined by seven graduates who shared their career paths and their experience of qualifying as Legal Executives and as Barristers. lt certainly left the students with a lot to think about!”

Tom Mulcock, Alumni Volunteer commented “I was so happy to have the opportunity to speak to current students about the CILEx option to becoming a Legal Executive. This route isn't often discussed so being able to provide a positive insight and inside knowledge to future lawyers was brilliant!”
