USW thanked for supporting Manchester United fans

USW colleagues were on hand to support fans of Manchester United when their team played Newport County in the FA Cup.

Newport Campus was used by the Premier League giants as a base for their fans to collect tickets for the game, which the Red Devils won 4-2.

As a thank you for the support, Ryan Wood from Manchester United presented Rhodri Ryland, External Engagement Manager at USW, with a signed Manchester United shirt.

Sam Kelleher, Director of Supporter Services at Manchester United, said: “To facilitate in-person ticket collections for Manchester United away fixtures, we rely upon working openly and collaboratively with the support of local organisations.

“The University of South Wales enabled us to execute smooth ticket delivery to approximately 1,500 Manchester United supporters travelling to watch our FA Cup Round Four match versus Newport County, contributing to ease of access into the stadium and prohibiting resale of tickets via unauthorised means.”

Mr Ryland said: "We’re thrilled to have been able to offer our support to Newport County and Manchester United in their fourth-round FA Cup tie, and to open up USW’s excellent facilities here in the city as a hub for official away supporter ticket collection.

“As a University well known for collaborative working, this is another example of how successful partnering can lead to positive business and community engagement."
