Accounting student Emily's year out in industry

Emily Edmunds - business student

Accounting and Finance Emily Edmunds is on a year-long internship with Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council.

As a Junior Accounting Technician, I work as part of the Accountancy team that monitors, supports and provides the monthly budgets for the variety of services provided by the council.

The placement has been a challenge, one that I am thoroughly enjoying. I would recommend it to any student.

Having the opportunity to work in a real business puts everything you have learnt into context. Everyone has been so friendly and I have felt like a valued member of the team.

As well as business experience, I’ve received additional training in various software packages. It’s also helped me develop as a person.

Getting paid a monthly salary is brilliant. It gives you independence and makes you appreciate the value of money.

The placement has made me realise that I want to succeed.

It has given me the encouragement and confidence I need to return to University for my final year.

I am now even more determined to achieve the best I can.
