Dani Bello started 'Bello Mind and Soul' in her second year of studying BA (Hons) Creative and Therapeutic Arts and explains how the degree has helped her and her business.
"My experience at USW has been life-changing, but most of all, it has been the best experience of my life!
I always knew that I wanted to combine both creativity and wellness, as from a young age I went through a lot of emotional distress.
I found that creativity helped me express myself and calm my mind, so I wanted to continue to explore the power of creating. I was so happy when I found out that I had been accepted onto the course, it felt like a dream come true!
I started my business, ‘Bello Mind and Soul’, during my second year of university, where I actually had to re-sit the year due to personal reasons. I started running workshops at small fairs and then when I passed my re-sit year, and just before graduating, I applied for the Freelances Academy.
I pitched my business to many companies, including Barclays bank, and won £350 to put towards marketing and materials for my workshops.
Since then, I have been on BBC Radio Derby talking about my business, I’ve carried out sessions in schools across Derby and have also facilitated sessions at one of the biggest wellbeing festivals in the UK.
It's hard to put into words how much this degree has helped me. I really do believe that without it, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve some of the things that I have.
The BA (Hons) Creative and Therapeutic Arts has helped me develop who i am as a person, from the therapeutic modules and learning how to pitch to funding bodies, to evaluating my work and learning how to conduct myself as an arts practitioner."
