Graduate represents Germany at the Venice Biennale

Graduate Tobias Zielony who studied the BA (Hons) Documentary Photography, represented Germany at the 2015 Venice Biennale.

Tobias has gone onto a successful career since completing his documentary photography degree.

Helen Sear, a Reader in Photography at the University of South Wales represented Wales at the major event.

It’s not the first time a graduate or staff member from the course has been involved in the Venice Biennale.

Graduate Edson Chagas represented Angola in 2013 after graduating in 2007. His exhibition was awarded the golden lion for the best pavilion. Paul Seawright, a former course leader of the BA (Hons) Documentary Photography also represented Wales in 2003.

Paul Reas, course leader for BA (Hons) Documentary Photography at Cardiff Campus said, “It was an amazing achievement for both a member of staff and graduate to both be chosen to represent their country in the same year at this prestigious event. The Venice Biennale is one of the biggest events in our industry and for this course to have several  staff and graduates involved over the years, shows the quality of the course on an international level.”

The major international art event has been described as ‘the Olympics of contemporary art’ and is now in its 56th year.
