Who or what inspires you?

Whilst I am heavily influenced by the work of Aries Moross and Annie Atkins, I am a firm believer that I am a mosaic of the people who I’ve met on my journey. My friends, lecturers, family, and contacts within my design network make up 90% of who I am, and they are what drive me to achieve greatness each and every day.

Can creativity save the world?

Creative lateral thinking can definitely contribute to the big ideas that create lasting change in society. Some of the most impactful and memorable movements in the past decade have been fueled by creatives and their skills!

Where has your creative journey taken you since starting at USW? What projects are you working on at the moment?

I have gone from knowing nothing about design and entering the course as a mature student to feeling confident in my abilities and prepared to enter industry after graduation. We have worked on live briefs with clients throughout my three years on this course which has equipped me with skills that make me industry ready!

What do you have planned next / after you graduate?

It’s my dream to work as a Graphic Designer on Doctor Who. Whether that be designing assets to be used in the show such as posters and packaging or working with IJPR to market and publicise the show after the production moves to Bad Wolf Studios in 2022. The opportunities for young creatives in Cardiff are endless thanks to the locality of the Film and TV industry and Cardiff becoming a hub of emerging talent in this industry.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give to yourself as a first year starting at USW?

I would reassure that anxious first year me that nothing worth having comes easy… However, the hard work will be so worth it when I finally reach the point of having self-confidence and faith in my work.

What makes studying Design at USW so special?

Graphic Communication at USW is a community! I feel like I’m part of something special every day and feel my development and future is valued by the team of lecturers.
