The ethos of the illustration degree is to create illustrations in response to real world problems, providing creative solutions and imagery in answer to a brief.
This year the RHS set our students the following brief:
Create four illustrations on the theme of ‘The Great Outdoors’. The main aim and purpose of the illustrations is to promote the benefits of horticulture to young people – aged 18-30 – creating visuals around the theme of plants/planting, gardens/gardening and horticulture.
Students were asked to consider how they could use illustration to help reconnect a generation of young people with the great outdoors.
The benefits of gardening and being outdoors have been well researched and documented, from increased levels of serotonin, physical activity and feeling connected to the world in which we live.
