Interior Design students create designs for new cafe bar

Second year BA (Hons) Interior Design students have worked on a live brief for which they have created designs for a bar/cafe in an old pump house development in Barry, near Cardiff.

The challenge was to design something which is in keeping with the character of the existing historical building whilst giving this venture a new clear identity.  The developers of the site DS Properties and Loft Co are also working on other similar projects including the Tram Shed buildings in Cardiff and are keen to work with the students on further projects.

Second year student Stevie Cleverly created designs for her concept, Pump and Grind. She said:

"I aimed to create a space that reflects the history of the building but also creates a new, fresh brand that sells specialist coffee and rum.

My inspiration for this project came from a bar in New York called Donny’s Bar, which is an industrial, urban brand where the interior of the bar consists of polished concrete floors and up-cycled furniture."
