Alumna: Lorna Dunkley, Broadcaster, BSkyB

Our alumna BSkyB broadcaster Lorna Dunkley regularly returns to USW to give masterclasses to our Journalism and Media students.

Lorna joined Sky News in 2002 and has presented some of the major national and International news stories of the last decade.  From the moment Saddam Hussein was captured by US forces in Iraq, to the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, Lorna has presented world-changing events from across the globe.

Talking about her days as a student here, she was quick to highlight the importance of getting your foot in the door and getting yourself noticed in the media industry.

"Get work experience. You are blessed in South Wales as there are so many production companies and opportunities available to you. You need to get yourself noticed, and make sure you are in the right place at the right time to grab opportunities as they arise."

"The University really helped me get me where I am today. It gave me the confidence to go out on my own and it gave me a really sound training in what I ultimately came on to do professionally."
