Estelle Wilkinson – Former Coldplay manager and music industry veteran
Estelle Wilkinson has worked in the music industry for 15 years, supporting an array of artists, including her time managing Coldplay during the early years of 2000-2006. Estelle gave students her unique industry insights, signposting opportunities for students considering A & R career pathways.
Adam Biddle – Managing Director at Edition
Adam has been at the forefront of social media launching the first ever-social agency for celebrities, theAudience. He is now Managing Director at Edition, a digital and creative agency, owned by Vice Media, with clients including Lily Allen, The BBC and Dynamo.
Fiona Allen – Tour Manager and Events Producer
Fiona has over 15 years experience working on major festivals and road managing tours across the world with artists inclusing LCD Soundsystem, Sia and the Pipettes.
Gill Taylor – Elvis Costello’s manager
Gill Taylor has 40 years experience in the music world and has worked with artists including Stevie Wonder, Frank Zappa, Blondie and Meatloaf. For the last 23 years she has managed Elvis Costello.
Helia Phoenix – Blogger, We Are Cardiff (pictured)
Local blog website We Are Cardiff has amassed 50k followers, a published book and won many prestigious awards. Founder and CEO Helia visited USW to discuss how digital marketing has been crucial in the blog’s success.
Alun Llwyd and Kevin Tame - Turnstile Music
Turnstile Music are a notorious Welsh independent record label that work managing artists including Cate Le Bon, Charlotte Church and Gruff Rhys.
Paul Grey – Musician
Paul Gray was the bassist for Eddie and the Hot Rods and was later recruited to join punk rock band The Damned. Paul has also sessioned for artists as diverse as Johnny Thunders, Rob Tyner (MC5) and Andrew Ridgeley (Wham!). He knows the industry inside out & now represents the Musicians Union.
Gareth Potter – DJ
Actor, musician and DJ Gareth talked with students about the the 'Cool Cymru' music phenomenon of the 1990's and explores how this still resonates in the Wales of 2016.
Darren Broome, The Lost Agency PR
The LOST agency PR offers a unique artist focused service based around the proven play-listing talents of ex BBC producer Darren Broome ex R1/R2/R4 and BBC Radio Wales producer.
Darren talked with students about the mechanics of how radio plugging works; analysing its strategic promotional relevance.
Matt Callanan - Filmmaker and Director
Matt is a former international DJ and music producer, having played in over 30 countries. He now runs Callapro Films - a video production company, that has filmed bands on top of igloos in Lapland, adventurers on top of volcanoes and Richard Branson in his family home. He has runs a social project to inspire people to collectively achieve 1 million good deeds with We Make Good Happen.
