Music student aims high

Tryfan Hobbs is studying BA (Hons) Popular Music.

“I loved studying music in Cardiff. The fact that my music degree course was placed within a dedicated arts-related campus in the centre of Cardiff was an added bonus and made it feel like the 'first step' into the industry.

A highlight of the music degree was receiving a multi-faceted insight into the many areas of the music industry and experiencing the passion of the course lecturers in teaching their specialised areas.

Our third year module involved a real-time business project; our area was a mini music festival, named Cwtchfest. This involved the planning, preparation and performance of a music and food festival at Gwdihw. We raised over £400 for charity and had over 100 attendees; it was a great success.

When I hear great music, it makes me smile and even laugh. That feeling is the main basis of my inspiration. I want to make music that makes me and anyone who listens to it happy. I find true passion in composing for media and aim to construct my own musical theatre production.

Once I graduate, I plan to travel to America and visit some of the top music and arts venues, in an attempt to incorporate what makes them successful into my own UK based venue.”
