Music Students Create Record Label – listen to the sampler album
Every year our music and sound students produce a vinyl sampler album "Create" that showcases a selection of the School’s artists and bands. The featured tracks are chosen by a panel of tutors and industry guests who hotly debate the high standard of entries. The end result is a fantastic collection of tracks written, performed and engineered by USW students, wrapped in a gatefold cover designed by MA Graphic Communication student Kim Appleby.
You can listen to the Vinyl Sampler on SoundCloud.
Lucy Squire, Academic Manager for Music & Sound, said:
“The Create Sampler Project is a celebration of the talent in the School of Music and Sound. Without doubt, some of the featured artists will breakthrough and we are excited to offer this level of exposure at the start of our student’s careers.”
The project has been a huge success, gaining critical acclaim and coverage from radio including support from presenters Adam Walton, Huw Stephens and Bethan Elfyn. The sampler is stocked in the oldest record shop in the world, Spillers Records, which is based in Cardiff; the capital of Wales and home to our creative industries courses.
Ashli Todd from Spillers Records said:
“Spillers has always been committed to supporting emerging new music; the Create Sampler provides the perfect tool to do just that. The compilation features 11 quality tracks created by USW music students and we hope it becomes an annual release because the shoots at grassroots is where everything grows from”.
