Peter Phillips studies BA (Hons) Visual Effects and Motion Graphics. His final year film, Out of Time, is inspired by his love of Sc-fi films.
“I wanted to create a world that was grounded and was believable for the viewer. I've been a big fan of Blade Runner and Dredd for a long time, and I themed my project around those films, creating a believable world in the not so distant future.
We were given 12 weeks to work on the project, from pre-production to completion. There were few challenges with this project, many due to the technicalities of filming. During post-production some shots proved more problematic than first thought. The matte paintings, for the opening and end shots, were a challenge to create. I had to make strong and visual compelling images, that felt grounded in the world.
I'm really proud of the work I produced. I wanted to create a strong final piece after my 3 years of study that I would be proud to have on my showreel.
After graduation I hope to work in TV as a compositor. I've been building my skills within this area, all through my studies and developed a stronger compositional eye for my Visual Effects shot. I hope to work within TV, as I am a huge fan of televisions shows and their faster turn arounds for projects. The quality of TV productions these days rival films and I really love to work on them.”
