Student Spotlight: Jessica Lantzos
Who or what inspires you?
The artist Dylan Cole inspirers me. He is a Digital Matte Painter and Concept artist and has created breath-taking environments in films such as The Lord of the Rings and Avatar. I aspire to reach his high level of creativity and photorealism in my own Digital Matte Paintings.
Can creativity save the world?
I believe creativity is the only way we can save the world as we know it. Every new idea is born from creativity, whether it’s inventing solutions to environmental problems or creating far-reaching media that can influence society.
Where has your creative journey taken you since starting at USW? What projects are you working on at the moment?
Since starting at USW I have discovered Digital Matte Paintings and Environments. I love the idea of creating whole new worlds without boundaries which my course has allowed me to explore. My current project is a collaborative piece with media production students where I am producing a winter conversion and turning a residential street into a picturesque snow scene.
What do you have planned next / after you graduate?
After I graduate, I will continue working on my showreel. I aspire to be a Digital Matte Painter working in a Visual Effects Company.
If you could go back in time, what advice would you give to yourself as a first year starting at USW?
To be more outgoing and say yes to every opportunity that comes your way, and to not leave projects to the last minute!
What makes studying VFX at USW so special?
VFX at USW has given me the opportunity to surround myself with like-minded people that are passionate about film and VFX. The lecturers are super helpful and supportive in helping us achieve whatever crazy ideas we come up with!
