Placements are the highlight
Chloe John is in the first year of USW's Working with Children and Families course in Newport.
"The highlight of this course is undoubtedly the different placement settings. These range from domestic abuse charities to working with asylum seekers.
"Placements give you a real-life experience of the everyday challenges that children and families face, and knowledge of how to support them.
"My placement was with Home Start Cardiff, a charity which supports parents with young children as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children.
"The best moment was visiting local families with a Home Start professional and seeing how the charity can make such a difference to their lives.
"It was also great to meet families that no longer needed help from Home Start as this demonstrated the effectiveness of the project.
"On the whole, it was an eye opener for me to see how families struggle on a daily basis.
"I want a career where I can make a difference. My placement experience has confirmed to me that working with children and families will allow me to do this."
