Students become crime scene forensic investigators for the day
Second-year Computer Forensics students became crime scene forensic investigators for the day.
Simulating a house-based live crime scene environment , the teams were granted ‘legal permission’ to enter the crime scene and search the house for evidence of hacking and the distribution of illegal substances.
In their full protective clothing, they had just an hour to search and seize digital evidence under the watchful eye of the module assessors – while the staff fully immersed themselves in the role of the unhappy tenants.
The teaching team planted a wide range of hidden evidence throughout the house, including computer hard drives, hidden passwords and novelty disguised USB sticks, and did their best to distract the investigators and at times obstruct the investigation.
