Placement has led to a full time job when I graduate
Anthony Meredith went to Glyn Derw High School in Cardiff before coming to USW to study Computer Security. Anthony recently finished a one-year paid placement as an Application Engineer at DevOpsGuys Ltd in Cardiff.
"When choosing a degree course - and an eventual career - I looked for something that would be future proof. I could see information increasingly being stored online, and more people using online services so I knew computer security would be an industry that would grow.
"After finishing my second year, I decided to do a placement as I felt a year out in industry would be invaluable experience, as well as give me the chance to show off my skills to the host company.
"I had a great time at DevOpGuys. The culture and the employees made it an amazing place to work and I made a lot of friends there.
"My biggest achievement was implementing ISO 27001 (a security architecture) for the company. I also attended conferences in London and got introduced to tools such as Ansible, Terraform and the ELK stack.
"The placement has helped my career in so many ways.
"First and foremost, I have been offered a full time job at the company when I graduate.
"But it also introduced me to a huge network of people, taught me a lot about the ISO 27001 standards and how to work efficiently as part of a team."
