Module: Researching Crime

Heroin use

Are male arrestees more likely than female arrestees to use heroin? Is there a connection between the use of heroin and shoplifting?  What are the mechanisms and processes involved in this connection?

In Researching Crime 2 students are taught how to ask questions like this and how to find the answers.

Data from real life research projects are used and step-by-step guidance is given on how to prepare data for analysis, how to conduct appropriate analyses, how to interpret findings and how to present the results.

The sessions are interactive and completed in weekly workshops using up-to-date computer software packages.

Students always enjoy this very practical module, which enables them to learn key transferable skills in a relaxed environment.

Taught by Professor Katy Holloway.
