How to write a personal statement for Criminology

Passion, enthusiasm and an interest in current affairs are key, says Dr Cheryl Allsop.

Passion

I want to see an interest in and passion for Ciminology that is gained from real life, not just fictional television programmes. Tell me why you want to study Criminology, what you hope to be doing in the future and especially why you want to come to USW to study it.

Prepare

Show me that you have done your research: what modules interest you and why? What do you know about our Criminology academics and what they specialise in? Don’t reiterate what you have studied at school or college. Tell me what you have done outside of your course – any voluntary work, hobbies, what you read, what interests you, and be prepared to explain why.

And finally…

Motivation, enthusiasm, and positivity always impress me.
