Greg Palmer is Director of Coaching and Club Development for CABOSA / Shreveport United Soccer Club in Louisiana, USA, is a graduate of our Football Coaching course. He is also the head coach at Shreveport Rafters Football Club, who play in the National Premier Soccer League.
Greg came to the University in 2009 following his release from Millwall FC. He also had spells at Crawley Town FC, Horsham YMCA, Three Bridges FC, Goadalming Town FC, and was player/manager at Welsh Division 1 side Aberaman FC.
After graduating, Greg "went to the USA for one summer to work at a Challenger Sports summer camp - and never left! Shreveport United Soccer club offered me a job as a director after I worked at one of their camps."
Greg says: "Once I knew that being a player wasn’t an option, I wanted to stay within the game, it was all that I knew. I gained my coaching licenses and educated myself extensively to become a highly knowledgeable coach.
"My football coaching course gave me the tools to be able to handle the real world. A number of the modules gave me an insight in to the work and experience needed to gain a job within football at the highest level.
"USW was a massive influence and the reason why I have been successful in my career today.
"I wouldn’t be where I am today without my time at USW."
As Director of Coaching at Cabosa / Shreveport United, Greg is responsible for leading this non-profit organisation, managing five full time staff, 25 part time staff and over 3,000 members.
He provides a range of youth soccer services to the city and community of Shreveport/Bossier, implementing a coach education program for all U15-U18 coaches, and managing and educating staff.
He writes curriculums for age-specific development, carries out the evaluation and analysis of players ready to progress into college soccer and produces a pathway for players to gain college scholarships. Greg also contributes to the establishment of the organisation’s strategic planning, financial management and grant writing.
