Collaboration with Catapult: Bringing premium sport technology to USW

At USW, we're working with Catapult, who are specialists in sports performance technology.

The three-year contract will enable our sports students to use first-class wearable technology and analysis software—putting them ahead of the competition.

Using Catapult GPS vests and a bespoke analysis system, the undergraduate and postgraduate football and rugby coaching students can evaluate technical and tactical data, to improve performance and inform the coaching process.

Jay Probert, Head of Subject for Sport, said: “USW sports alumni are employed internationally so experience of world-class technology is imperative.

“Catapult has a first-rate reputation for performance analysis across a wide range of sports, so this collaboration prepares students for employment in the world of sport. We are delighted to be working with them.”

Jacob Sherwood, Catapult Business Development Manager, said: “We’re excited to expand our partnership with the University, the facilities at USW are incredible; the indoor pitch, with ClearSky LPS system for accurate positional data indoors, and the performance analysis suite are two very impressive learning environments. Students at the University now have access to a full product suite which is being used by elite teams throughout the industry. Ben and the team have been clear with their goal of ensuring students have access to software that is used in the applied environment, which significantly enhances their employability.”
