A guide to studying Sport

Female Sport Student

Do I have to buy Sports Kit?
No, every first year student is given free sports kit, worth £185. The kit will contain everything you need for your course (with the exception of footwear) and is intended to last for three years. You will have the option to buy additional items such as a hoody, kit bag etc.

How do I get the Sports Kit?
Providing you meet the conditions of your offer and your place is confirmed, you will receive a form from our Total Team Wear, our supplier, after Results Day in August. This will give instructions on how to apply. The kit will be sent to your home address or, if you do not receive your offer until just before the start of enrolment, then it will be available on campus in the first few weeks of term.

Do you have sports teams can I join?
The University has a thriving competitive environment with a range of University teams competing in the BUCS (British Universities & Colleges) League, including football, rugby, cricket, golf and hockey.

How do I get between locations/campuses?
The University runs a free shuttle bus between Treforest, Glyntaff and the Sport Park. There is a paid-for student car park at Glyntaff and Treforest, and limited free parking at the Sports Park.

How many hours will I be in Uni?
Most sport students have around 12-15 hrs a week of study, depending whether the lectures are theory or practical. You will be expected to do your own study outside of these times.

Will I be able to get a part time job?
Lots of our sport students work alongside their course, in paid and voluntary roles. There are opportunities to work in a range of community and professional sports organisations, including local government sports departments. Our Employability Officer runs a job board for sports students which advertises current roles and you can find this on Blackboard, the student intranet, when you enrol.

How do I apply for the Sports Scholarship/Bursary?
These are only open to existing students, so you are not able to apply until you are enrolled onto your course. Here is more information.
