Sam Hobbs, USW Graduate and Academy Coach for the Dragons region, studied the BSc Rugby Coaching & Performance degree at USW. Below he explains how his degree has helped him develop his career in Rugby.

"The course gave me practical first-hand experience of coaching through a variety of placements whilst also allowing me to experience other aspects of sports performance such as strength & conditioning and performance analysis. This experience helped develop my initial career as a player as well as preparing myself to follow my second career choice of being a rugby coach.

Since graduating I have been able to apply my skills and knowledge that were developed through the course in many roles. I have coached at several teams at various levels including, University (USW), Senior Club (Pontypridd RFC), Welsh Schools & Colleges league, (Cardiff & Vale College).

I am currently working as an Academy Coach for the Dragons region.

Without a doubt, the course gave me the practical experience, equipped skills and knowledge underpinned by relevant theoretical content".
